Thanks for visiting the website of Paul McDonald, barrister.
I am an experienced commercial litigation barrister with a broad practice.
Civil dispute resolution is the core of what I do. That encompasses all aspects of the litigation process, including the important pre-filing and post-litigation components.
Before joining the bar in 2018, I spent over 15 years as a solicitor in private practice, including 10 years in the litigation group at Gilbert + Tobin and 4 years with a Sydney boutique litigation practice, where I regularly appeared in Courts and Tribunals.
I have also worked in a number of government roles, including at ASIC and the Roads and Maritime Authority.
My core areas of practice include:
- Australian Consumer Law
- Contractual disputes
- Real property, including tenancy, caveat and mortgage disputes
- Corporations Act matters, including statutory demands
- Construction
- Tortious disputes
- Insurance matters
- Wills and estates (including family provision)
- Partnership disputes
- Costs
Working with solicitors to achieve outcomes for clients involved in a dispute is my key skill.
I also present regularly to solicitors and barristers on many topics relating to litigation practice, practical matters of commercial law (such as the execution of documents) and substantive law.
I have a Bachelor of Laws with Honours from the University of Canterbury. I am a notary public under the Public Notaries Act 1997 (NSW).
